SYNOPSIS
Six brave musicians who achieve a revolution on social media with an independent label, without the help of playlists, radio support, or marketing strategies, at a very difficult time for urban music in Spanish, which is collapsed by an algorithm that favors sexual or dance-oriented themes. A protest song with a sad melody that manages to surpass 450 million views on the platform's TikTok hashtag and more than 110 million interactions under #Patriayvida on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Patria y Vida is a call for freedom in the streets of Cuba and throughout the world. It is banned by the island's government, which imprisons people for the simple act of listening to it. Maykel Osorbo, one of the rappers on the track, is being held in the Pinar del Río maximum-security prison because, during the historic protests of July 11, 2021, Patria y Vida was the most heard cry among the crowd. Meanwhile, Yotuel, leader of the group Orishas and creator of the song, is forced into an exile that forbids him from returning to his country. Alexander Delgado and Randy Malcom, of the duo Gente de Zona, acknowledge that after releasing the song, they received a call from the FBI alerting them to a kidnapping order.
